開始建城做為臺灣省省會 The government started to construct the city as the capital city of Taiwan
1896(明治29年)Meiji 29
行政區域重新調整，首度稱位於臺北、臺南之間的地區為臺中，「臺中」在行政名稱上正式確立。 Administrative divisions were redesigned. The name Taichung was firstly used to refer to the region between Taipei and Tainan. “Taichung” became the official name recognized by the administration.
1908(明治41年)Meiji 41
臺灣縱貫鐵路全線通車，湖心亭即是當時為慶祝鐵道開通所建。 The trunk line connecting the north and south Taiwan was completed. The Mid-Lake Pavilion was built to celebrate the completion of the mainline.
1920(大正9年)Taisho 9
實施地方制度改正，新設5州，原臺中、南投二廳再合併為臺中州(共有11郡及1臺中市)，州署設於臺中市。 The local government structure was modified. Five prefectures were added. The old Taichung Cho and Nantou Cho (local administrative offices) were combined as Taichung Prefecture (total 11 counties and 1 Taichung City). Taichung hosted the administrative office.
1945(民國34年)Minguo 34
全臺行政區域重新劃分，臺中縣、市正式分治。 Administrative regions in Taiwan were redesigned. County and city administrations were officially separated.
2010(民國99年)Minguo 99
臺中縣市合併升格直轄市，下轄29區。 Taichung County and Taichung City was combined and upgraded to a special municipality with 29 districts.
2016(民國105年)Minguo 105
第三代臺中車站正式通車 The third phase of the Taichung Train Station was officially put into operation.
2017(民國106年)Minguo 106
總人口達277.7萬人，成為臺灣第二大都市。 Population reached 2.777 million, making Taichung the second largest city in Taiwan.
2017(民國106年)Minguo 106
GaWC(全球化與世界城市研究組織)公布2016世界城市排名，臺中市首次進榜便獲選Gamma-級，與英國布里斯托、美國奧蘭多、紐西蘭威靈頓等城市並列，排名全台第2。
Taichung is ranked as Gamma-level city by Ga WC by the first time, same with Bristol, Orlando,Wellington in 2016.
2019(民國108年)Minguo 108
2019年美世( Mercer Management Consulting)生活品質調查(Quality of Living Ranking)公布對全球231個城市所進行的評比，臺中名列第101名。 According to 2019 annual survey of the 231 cities by Mercer Management Consulting, Taichung ranks as No.101 in the world for its quality of living .
2020(民國109年)Minguo 109
在2020年GaWC所公布之世界級城市名單中，臺中市為Gamma級城市。 Taichung is considered a “Gamma level” global city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network in 2020.
2021(民國110年)Minguo 110
臺中綠線捷運通車，成為臺灣第三座擁有捷運城市，正式邁入捷運交通新時代。 The Taichung Metro Green Line officially began operation, Taichung became the third city in Taiwan with MRT. This was the dawning of a new era of MRT transportation.
